Free online games
Ever wondered what game could keep you engrossed and while away your time when you are not in the mood to watch "How I met your Mother", "Dance with the stars", "Oprah Winfrey Show". I bet you have. Has your wife been taunting you about how dull and dumb you have become of late? About how you leave the water running, or forget to take the pet out for a pee or forget your dinner while you are idling on the couch? Well, you need some play for your left sided brain to get back to logical thinking.
You may also be bored of jumping around and groping with the PS3 controller or the Xbox Kinect or the Nintendo Wii. Your mind is looking for something simple - something to keep you busy, not the arcade games or the blood spilling types. You decide to search for some games you would love to play online.
There you go . You key in the words "Free Online Games" in the Google search bar and click on "Google search". Phew. Millions of results right? I get them too. Now you are filled with enthusiasm. To have found millions of links which have billions of free games (that's what you are made to believe). You decide to click on the first one. Something promising shows up. An irritating popup for an advertisement blows in your face. You are in no mood to be bogged down and you close it humbly. You find an interesting game. Woo hoo. Let the fun begin.
You click on the link and wait with bated breath. Too much flash on gaming sites causes servers to respond slowly but you are not a quitter. You wait on. Then it happens. You are re-directed to another site with loads of colorful games on display and yet again another popup (sometimes with sounds) blows in your face. This time the website asks you to sign up in order to access their thousands of free games. And many of the games you see after signing up are indeed not free. What a way to piss you off when you are so enthused to while away time with some simple engaging games.
You maintain your calm and to proceed to the next website in the search results. This time you are in luck. The wacky popup still pops out but the free games are there to play. Phew. Finally. You click on a game that you found interesting. Yes, you finally got what you wanted. But wait. You are being asked to wait. The other players haven't joined. You need to wait 30 seconds to begin. You can access the full version of the game by signing up. The story repeats.
I have gone through this experience a lot of times. Thus I decided to find out 5 simple online free games which I would bookmark and play whenever I feel like. I was hooked onto Farmville and Mafia wars on Facebook but of late I have lost interest in them.
Below are the 5 games I love playing and I feel they are the best free online games to kill time. Hope you like them all.
1. Perthnow Gravity Master
This game is truly a winner. It is simple. Works on almost any operating system. Just needs a mouse (no keyboard). And needs your brain. This game challenges you to create shapes as you wish and use them to guide a ball to its destination. You will realize how good or bad you are at logic. Yes the more you play, the better your logic cells start working. I read an article somewhere about the left brain being associated with logical thinking while the right brain relates to creativity. Try this game if you want to tweak your left brain a bit.

Tips -
- Use heavy solid shapes to make the ball fly to its destination. You can use a lever to throw the weight on with the ball on the other end.
- Block the ball's path towards the end to stop it from tripping down.
2. Bejeweled
I am sure most of you would have played this game with jewels. The screen is filled with different types of jewels in different shapes and colors. The idea is to move them around to form a combination of 3 or more exactly similar jewels. The combination can be horizontal, vertical or diagonal. You can move a jewel only one place. There's a timer which keeps ticking. You need to be fast to stay in the game and to proceed to further levels. Again this is a simple game which makes your left brain work.
3. Scrabble
I do not need to explain this game since it is one of the games that our kids beat us at. So shameful of us to lose a game of vocabulary to our own kids. You can make words in horizontal, vertical, diagonal or even use adjacent alphabets selected in a cyclic manner. I love this game since I always want to see myself at the top because I consider I have a good vocabulary. At least i believe so.

4. Monopoly
This one does not need explanation either. One of the most famous games to be played by families sitting in their patio, savoring snacks and coffee and sometimes beer et al. This game involves rolling a die to travel through the world. You buy some cities, construct hotel, and build homes along the way. You fall into Income tax or the cops catch you or your land in another player's property for all of which you need to empty some part of your bank. This game is about money, strategy and greed. I played this one for like 2 hours on the trot only to realize I hadn't touched my masala tea which had gotten cold.
5. Mario
This one is my childhood favorites. Most of my childhood was spent playing Super Mario in search of the queen, advancing through level after level to meet the queen's maid but never the queen herself until finally we managed to get her after years of patience. We were not blessed to have Sony Play station 3, Nintendo Wii or an Xbox Kinect Bundle during our times so Mario holds a special place for me and its fun. You need to jump, stamp on creatures, bang your head to collect money and energy, throw fire at creatures and do many other things. This link has different characters to choose from. Some of them are celebrities of the cartoon & gaming world.

I hope I do not waste much of your time by sharing this but at least the next time you want to play some entertaining games, you know where to look. Have a fun time.
